Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show ( When AVheii ) he went into the 1107 country ( he lie ) went overland and he never ( went vent ) down the river ( in iii ) a boat . None of the properties that ( he lie ) has described are being ( worked worlced ) at the present time except the Big Indian property , and he ( doesn't doesnt ) know what they are doing there . He was in that section of the country a few weeks ago and there were men there , but he ( wasn't wasnt ) through the mine and ( doesn't doesnt ) ( know hnow ) what they are doing . He ( hasn't hasnt ) been down to the ( Mendenhall "Mendenhall Mendenhall ) Trail since he left that country , but there were possibly two or three placer miners when he was last in there . ( R . 4423 . ) When he was a boy at Bluff , he used to go in swimming in the San ( Juan Xuan ) River , and also used to wade across . He ( couldn't couldnt ) give the date of the two floods he testified to , and ( doesn't doesnt ) know whether or not they were the floods of 1894 and of 1911 , but he ( re- re ) calls a flood about the time of 1911 . He remembers a big flood they had in Bluff when the water came up into the ( orchards orcha'rds orchards ) and into the fields and the town ? He was a young man at that time working in the Gold Queen Mine in the Blue Mountains . He remembers another time when the flood ( wasn't wasnt ) so heavy , but it came close to the edge of |
