Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

This ( same saine ) condition exists between Moonlight ( Greek Creek ) and the mouth of the river . In these ( stretches stretched ) , ifc the water would get lower the expedition would stop . ( R . 3778 . ) The most frequent groundings were encountered in the section between Moonlight Creek and the mouth of Piute Creek but there were a few groundings below . - Between Moonlight Creek and Clay Hill Crossing the San Juan flows through a box canyon with vertical walls and the canyon is not accessible except by boat . The nearest place upstream that a person can ( gat gent ) into the canyon is at Slick Horn Gulch . ( Prom From ) Clay Hill Crossing to Mile 53 it is open ( coun coun- coun ) try ; from there is small box canyon extends to about Mile 51 . ( Prom From ) Mile 51 to Mile 46 it is open country ; from there to ( Mile Alile ) ( 43.5 43.05 ) a shallow box canyon . R . 3779-3780 . ) ( Prom From ) Mile 43 there is open country ( down dmal ) to ( Zahn's Zahns ) ( Camp Carnp ) . There is open country between ( Zahn's Zahns ) Camp at a place near the mouth of Nokai , and from ( Zahn's Zahns ) ( Camp Cainp ) there is a restriction in the high canyon wall extending almost to ( Spencer's Spencers ) Camp . ( Prom From ) ( Spencer's Spencers ) Camp it is open country from Mile 37.5 to about 38.5 , and from 37.5 to Great Bend there is a narrow canyon , inaccessible except by boats ; which extends down to about Mile 27 . ( Prom From ) Mile 27 down to Piute Creek at Mile ( 21.5y 215y ) is open country on the east side of the river . |
