Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show ( 755 70-5 ) ( f7- f7 ) post 54 . F roin Knob ( Oanyon Ccanyon ) the pipe line ( went veiit ) through the canyon to the point of the ( Thompson- Thompson Thompson--- Thompson ) Moab road . ( ( B R ) . 2914-2915 . ) He made that reconnaissance by ( walking walldng ) over part of that ( line Iii1e ) ; went into both ends of the canyon far enough to satisfy himself of the nature of ( tlie the ) ( canyon -canyon canyon ) and of the river ; walked over part of ( tie the ) line and again viewed it from a boat as he went up and down the river . On the ( Thoinpson-Moab ThoinpsonMoab Thompson-Moab ThompsonMoab ) end he drove in a car . Saw practically all of it . ( R . 2915 . ) On his first trip down there he remained about seventeen days at the location , and during the time of his arrival and the 17th day of January , when he left , and in addition to his work on the pipe line reconnaissance , tracings were made of the ( boun- boun ) daries of the Prank Shafer and ( John J-ohn John ) L . Shafer permit , as well as located additional wells on each permit , and made the location for what they ( after- after ) wards termed their No . 2 well , or the John ( H R ) . Shafer permit well . ( ( B R ) . 2916 . ) He actually ( par- par ) ticipated in running practically all of the lines of those permits . After that work was ( done doiie ) Mr . ( Ed- Ed ) wards finished up the work on those permits ; but there were some lines yet to be run when he left . ( R . . 2916 . ) He made no other trips back to Moab , except at the time he ( came catile ) out January 17th . He was on the river up ( and wid ) down in the structure practically all that time or at least every few days , but he 0 ( didn't didnt ) travel clear back to Moab ( until ulitil ) he came out 6 |
