Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

They are practically the same distance t v , about ( ninety-five ninetyfive ) miles to Trachyte and about one ( -flfifrM- flfifrM ) * " * ( hundred huildred ) miles to the ( junction julictioii ) . * The cost per ton upstream was about ( twenty-five twentyfive tweuty-five tweutyfive ) cents ( 011 on ) the river , ( not not" not ) ( including hicluding ) depreciation or overhead . His cost per ton a mile was ( thirty-five thirtyfive ) cents from Trachyte to ( Greenriver Greeuriver ) by team , not ( in- in ) ( cluding eluding ) depreciation or overhead . ( ( E R ) . 4808-4809 . ) ( On 01i ) this one trip he practically hauled upstream the same as he would haul with a ( six-horse sixhorse six-liorse sixliorse ) team ( from froin ) Trachyte ; about three tons . The scow might have cost two hundred dollars to build , although he ( doesn't doesnt ) know , and the boat probably cost him seven or eight hundred dollars . The horses would be worth one ( hundred-fifty hundredfifty ) ( dol- dol ) lars and the set of harness for two horses was ( worth -worth worth ) about ( thirty-five thirtyfive ) dollars or a little more , and he had three chain sets . The wagon he used on the trip was worth two hundred dollars .
