Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( R . 4240-4241 . ) When ( he lie ) went on his first hunting trip in 1899 ( he lie ) got a deer but did not bring it back , as they ate it all up . He had no wife at that time and did not bring any back to his prospective wife . On the hunting trips that he has been on very few deer ever got back to Greenriver , as they ate them up before they got back . He has never done any trapping and he believes he just took Bullock down once to his property . ( R . 4241-4242 . ) On this trip he also took down Mr . Lee Valentine , who was one of the workmen . He did not exactly take him down as they were both c going down to work , but he got paid for this trip . He was supposed to be paid for ( Ms his ) trip on the Undine but never received it . He never saw the Undine back at Greenriver . It was tied at the bank at Moab the ( last Iqast ) time he saw it . ( R . 4243 . ) The Undine was from ( forty-six fortysix ) to fifty feet long and eight feet wide . It had no compartments except the pilot house . They were two and a half or three days going from the head of the cataracts up to Moab on the Undine and were a longer time than that going from ( Green- Green ) river Utah ] , down to the head of the cataracts . ( R . 4244 . ) He does not remember the Navajo or the Colorado or any other power boats , owned by Mr . Wolverton , except the Wilmontj the name of which may have been changed several times , when it was remodeled . |
