For Defendant ( Rccord , , Vol . . 25 , pp . 4390-4432 ) ( He Re ) ( resides xesides ) at ( Montieello "Monticello Monticello ) , San Juan County , Utah , and his full name is Arthur Stephen Woods . . He is 53 years old and came to San ( Juan Juall ) County when ( he lie ) was a boy and lived at Bluff , Utah , moving away from there about 1905 . He has been engaged in the cattle business all his life , has never been a placer miner , but recalls the years ( when Nvheii ) there was a gold excitement on the San Juan River . ( R . 4396-4397 . ) As a boy he saw the miners on the San Juan River in their boats at different places , some going up and down stream and others stationed oil the bank of the river . He recalls two instances where boats were taken and put on the river at Bluff . He does not know how far the miners ( whom whoin ) he saw in their own boats have gone downstream . . ( R . 4398 . ) He has seen miners at the mouth of Comb Wash , , Gable Camp , and possibly , Mexican Hat . . These instances were in later years , when he was riding the range . He has seen a boat going upstream at the mouth of Comb Wash or the Barton cabin that is an old trading post close to the ( mouth niouth ) . of Comb Wash . . |
