Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show This boat was frequently 1374 loaded so that it drew two feet of water and was used on short trips . He was able to sail this boat successfully upstream but did not sail down with it . In 1903 he built a motor boat ( named nanied ) the ( WilmonL Vilnzont ) It was ( twenty-seven twentyseven ) feet long , five and a half foot beam and empty drew approximately ten inches of water . ( R . 5333 . ) Under full load it ( would -would would ) draw about three feet . The boat was first ( equipped -equipped equipped ) with a four ( horse horse- horse ) power motor and propelled with a stern wheel . He made one trip to Greenriver with the boat but had trouble because the power was not sufficient and it was necessary to help the boat over the riffles . He made two round trips to the junction of the rivers , and one trip to Moab and back with the same engine . ( R . ( 5334 0-334 ) . ) On those trips ( he lie ) experienced very little trouble on the river , although the engine did not have sufficient power . On one trip he went to the head of the cataracts . Coming back up they made very slow ( progress progrelss ) , making the six miles from the first cataract to the junction in two hours and ( fifty-eight fiftyeight ) minutes . They did not assist the engine in taking the boat over that portion of the stream .
