Show 4lMfcX £ % * > 1023 in elevation of one or two feet in a mile is not ( dis- dis ) cernable to the naked eye , and therefore the scale must be exaggerated in order to depict these ( differ- differ ) ences [ in the river ] , ( R . 4038 . ) ' This is in ( accord- accord ) ance with approved engineering practice , and profile sheets for river work , and other purposes are drawn , in that way . ( -He He He ) knows of no better way in ( which which- which ) they could be shown very satisfactorily in practice . . ( R . 4038-4039 . ) In order to obviate the effect of changes in the stage of water in the river , it is arranged as far as possible to make the survey during the time of ( the- the ) year when changes are at a minimum . The profile that is finally drawn is made to represent the surface , of the water at ordinary ( low-water lowwater ) stage . If a ( sud- sud ) den change in stage occurs , this is taken care of from day to day by the topographer on the ground , or by applying a correction on the basis of gage ( stations- stations stations ) that may be maintained along the stream . ( R . 4039-4040 ) Some of the surveys that they have made , ( for- for ) instance , are corrected to a fixed ( stage-on stageon ) the ( Colo--- Colo ) rado , or portions of it , a fixed stage of 10,000 cubic feet per second , taking into account with the ( read- read ) ings of the gages up and down the stream , the cross , section of the river at the place where the correction is made , etc . , so that it will afford as accurate a ( pic- pic ) ture as possible . ( R . 4040 ) It has been his experience since he has been ( con- con ) nected with the Department , that maps prepared in . . |
