Show ing of 50,000,000 tons in 976 the Connecticut River at a , given point ? ( "A A ) , Yes , sir . I think I can answer that in this way : We figure the percentage by weight carried at these various points . At Greenriver , it is 0.66 , and at Cisco 0.27 . Now , the river flow at Greenriver and Cisco are the same . So the water at Cisco is much clearer than the water at Greenriver . On the San Juan , the percentage was 1.91 for this period . The San Juan carries less water than either Cisco or Greenriver ; so it is much muddier . The Colorado River at Lees Ferry had a percentage of 0.64 , nearly the same as the percentage at Greenriver ; but the flow at Lees Ferry is a little over three times the flow at Greenriver ; so it is clearer at Lees Ferry . " ( ( E R ) . 3806-3808 . ) At the Bright Angel Station in the Grand Canyon , the load was ( 152,000,000 10-2,000,000 ) tons for the year ( ending September 30 , 1929 ) . The quantities given take into consideration only solid matter which is carried in suspension , and has nothing to do with salts carried in solution . ( R . 3808-3809 . ) There is a ( relation relation- relation ) ship between the velocity of the stream and the quantity of silt carried , but he was unable to state just what the relationship is . When the velocity of the stream becomes sufficiently slow , the suspended matter is deposited , but he is not able to state when such deposition would take place , because he is not familiar with the physical conditions of the stream .
