Got out and dragged the boats . . Next one ( Bullfrog Btillfrog ) below Hanson Creek . At Jocko , Rapids had a ( 'man man ) ( get got ) out and wade and lead the boat and feel his wtv to find the channel . Wintertime and river very low . Bed rock runs clear across the river and is full of potholes . Next rapids at mouth of Escalanta River . Aztec Rapids below the mouth of the San Alan , one of the worst on river between Hite and Lees Ferry . Last Chance Rapids at the Crossing of the Fathers , very near the ( Utah-Arizona UtahArizona ) Line . ( R . 3610-3611 . ) Sand bars were encountered , especially below the ( rnouth mouth ) of the San River . ( Water 11rater ) low and bars not moving . In the still places there would be big bars . The trip upstream with big launch was a hard trip . Would not go upstream under its own power . Had 13 men and it took 26 days to get launch up . Engine worked all right , but the water in river was fairly swift and engine could not propel upstream against the current . ( R . 3612 , 3613 . ) Necessary to tow past all of the rapids . From Hite to Tickaboo , generally went down on horseback . ( Etas F1as ) gone in a boat , and also on foot . If boat not ( handy liandy ) supplies were taken ( dowa down ) with pack animals ; particularly in high water , because of dangers with rocks , ( whirlpools ivbirlpools ) and sand waves .
