Show rp o 1410 never crossed the river on foot , but has walked as far as he could wade and swam the rest of the way . On the trip ( dgwn dQwn ) from Greenriver to the head of the cataracts , he ( didn't didnt ) encounter any sand bars . In Cataract Canyon , there are no sand bars . The water is so swift , it cleans them out . ( R . 5443-5444 . ) From the foot of the cataracts down to the ( Utah- Utah ) Arizona State line , the boats got stuck on sand bars frequently , and on the trip down from Greenriver to the junction when the parties would land , they would get on sand bars , as they ( couldn't couldnt ) avoid that . ( R . 5444-5445 . ) In going down the river from Greenriver , Utah , to the junction when he was traveling straight down with no intention of stopping , he ( didn't didnt ) have ( any ally ) difficulty with sand bars and ( didn't didnt ) strike any at all , but if he wanted to go into the bank on the west side of the river , and the current was on the east side , it was impossible to get in constantly without hitting a sand bar . By that , he means he ( couldn't couldnt ) land on a sand bar without hitting it . ( R . 5445- 5446 . ) He means that the river ( doesn't doesnt ) go right out and end with a sharp bank in deep water . In order to get to the bank ( he be ) would have to wade maybe 20 feet and sometimes farther , but he ( doesn't doesnt ) ( recall recaU ) on any occasion , on that trip from Greenriver to the head of the Cataract Canyon , when the boat hit a sand bar in the channel of the river , or on any other occasion when . he was landing or crossing the river to reach some point and ( deliberately deEberately ) left the channel . |
