These supplies were brought overland with the ( excep excep- excep ) ¬ tion of those they had to take in the boats , which would not last longer than ten or fifteen days , as the boats did not ( carry- carry carry ) more than that amount , together ( with witli ) the equipment and members of the party , so that supplies were loaded on at one point sufficient to carry ( them thein ) to the next point of meeting on the river . The survey was carried on with the latest improved instruments and the plan sheets were made in the field in pencil and later inked in at the office by him . The profile sheets , of course , were compiled and platted in the office . Sheets 14 , 15 , and 16 of ( Complainant's Complainants ) Exhibit No . 10 are reproductions of the maps which he prepared in the field . ( R . 3867- 3870 . ) He has examined them and knows them to be a correct reproduction of his field work . In making the survey he indicated on the maps the various rapids to ( which ivhich ) he came on the San Juan River , they being shown by frequent dashes within the solid blue line representing the water line of the river . The white spot in the river at Mile 21 , Sheet 14 , is an island . In addition to rapids and islands there are shown between the shore lines of the river on the map , sand bars , and large boulders . that occur in rapids , and the rapids shown were actually observed by him and measured as to fall .
