Description Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929.

OCR Text the San Juan , there was ( 1202 120.01 ) very little of the boat that stuck up out of the water . It had regular rowboat sides and they were maybe twenty ( inches inehes ) [ high ] . On that trip the draft was fifteen or sixteen inches , he would say . ( R . 4759-4760 . ) He made a round trip from Halls Crossing to Escalante after the ( Chenoweth Cheno-weth Chenoweth ) party arrived . After they started to move down the river from Halls Crossing they hadto leave part of the load and he went back later and got it and took it down to camp . In the fall of 1921 he made three trips down the river from Halls Crossing and three trips back to this point . He made a number of short trips while he was waiting for the Chenoweth party . ( Keal Real ) late in the fall he met the big ( Cali- Cali ) fornia Edison Boat and it ( was -was was ) in trouble on that occasion . ( R . 4760-4761 . ) It ( couldn't couldnt ) get up the river with its load . The boat was alright but it had a very small stern wheel in it and the fellow that had the boat said he ( couldn't couldnt ) get the supplies up ; he was supplying aparty that had ( worked -Nvorked Nvorked ) ( upstream upstrearn ) from Lees ( Perry Ferry ) . - He had been ( supply supply- supply ) ¬ ing the three parties coming downstream with his boat . The man with the California Edison Boat asked ( Mr -Mr Mr ) . Chenoweth to send him back and he went back and took the supplies up . ( R . 4762 . ) The place where he met the California Edison Boat ( wasn't wasnt vasn't vasnt ) very far above Lees Ferry . He ( doesn't doesnt ) know just where , but ( lie he ) believes it was up . above ( Warm Warin ) Creek .
