Show prospecting with pans along 1310 the banks of the ( river -river river ) and found so light ( he lie ) ( couldn't couldnt ) handle it and ( didn't didnt ) go on the river at all . He reached the river overland with pack outfit and stayed around Dandy Crossing either two or three days . He remembers meeting Cass Hite at that time and there were five or six other men with him . They were building a raft for the purpose of taking a boiler down the river to Tickaboo . ( R . 5133-5134 . ) The boiler was loaded on the raft when ( he lie ) got there . The raft was ( con- con ) structed of lumber and was probably twenty or ( twenty-five twentyfive ) feet long , and sixteen or eighteen feet wide . The boiler was a sixty horsepower , but he ( doesn't doesnt ) know the weight of it . Besides the boiler they had some supplies and tools on the raft and he saw them float down the river probably a quarter of a mile , with four men manning the two sweeps , if ( he lie ) remembers right . ( R . 5134-5135 . ) There were two row boats accompanying the raft , one along the side and the other with a man in it . He ( doesn't doesnt ) have any idea as to the length of the boiler ; it may have been twelve or fifteen feet long ; just a common steam boiler . He ( doesn't doesnt ) know the weight of the engine either . He was next down at Dandy Crossing in the ( nine- nine ) ties in the winter , at which time he excavated a race at Good Hope Bar for the Cass Hite Placer Mining ( Com- Com ) pany , and put in a water wheel to hoist the water for sluicing purposes . He does not remember whether it was the early or late nineties but thinks it must have |
