Show at nine ( o'clock oclock ) and reached 1183 Greenriver at two ( o'clock oclock ) ( in iii ) the afternoon . ( R . 4684-4685 . ) In ( go- go ) ing down stream ( he lie ) ( doesn't doesnt ) remember any trouble of any kind ; they sailed right along , and there was a channel that the main stream of the river ( fol- fol ) lowed . The river is very crooked , and the ( chan chan- chan ) ¬ ( nel iiel ) would have to cross from one side to the other . But if they followed that channel there was ( 110 no ) trouble in getting good depths all the way down . If they did not follow the channel , and used poor judgment , it was easy to get ( into ii-ito iiito ) shallow water . He says this in reference to the river below the mouth of the San Rafael River . ( R . 4685 . ) On the up journey , for the same reason , he believes there was no occasion to get on bars , if good judgment was used and they followed the main channel of the river . The trip was not delayed from any ( condi- condi tondin ) tions they found on the river ; bars or rapid water . He had made one other trip before this , in the same gasoline driven boat , but ( didn't didnt ) spend so ( much inuch ) time in making investigations . He believes it took them two and ( one-half onehalf ) days to go down . ( R . 4686 . ) It took about three days to make the return ( journey jouriley ) , barring the delay from breaking the engine ( on oil ) the second trip . On the first trip he ( doesn't doesnt ) remember any trouble at all , except that in crossing the river they would sometimes have to watch to keep in the deep channel . The first trip , he believes , was made in July of 1907 , although he is ( not liot ) absolutely sure of this . ( R . 4686-4687 . ) |
