Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show The next morning they 842 left in Mr . ( "Wolvorton's Wolvortons IVolvexton-'S IVolvextonS ) skiff and he [ Wolverton ] went with ( tliem them ) ( around arouncl ) Bowknot bend . There were three in the boat ; the balance of the party on shore went around on foot . They went around the Bowknot bend and came back to the Narrows that same night and made camp , and the next morning started upstream in the Dispatch and the skiff Mr , Wolverton had with him ( and ancl ) went to where ( Wolverton WOlVeTton ) had ( tlie the ) ( Wilvwnt Wilmont ) tied up , and proceeded upstream with the two boats . ( R . 3254-3255 . ) They proceeded upstream with the two boats , and they encountered a few sand and gravel bars until they got up to Mr . ( Wolverton's Wolvertons ) ranch again . ( R . 3255 . ) Mr . Wolverton decided to go up to Greenriver with ( them thcm ) , and they took the ( Wilmont TF'ilmont TFilmont ) ( and aild ) the ( Dis- Dis ) ( patch patc7b ) boat also and made Greenriver ( in iii ) one day . ( R . 3255 . ) With the usual difficulties they had with sand bars and gravel bars , ( and aud ) the Brown ( riffle rifle ) at that time was so they ( made inade ) it all ( right riglit ) ( without witbout ) grounding there . ( R . 3255-3256 . ) He ( made niade ) another trip on the ( Dispatch Dispatc7i ) , from Greenriver to Little Valley about five ( miles imiles ) below the ( Greenriver Greenri-ver Greenriver ) bridge , but there ( was -was was ) no difference between that and the first trip with reference to sand bars . The ( Dispatch Dispatc7i ) broke loose one night at high ( wa- wa ) ter and it wrapped itself around one of the ( piers piers- piers ) at the bridge and was destroyed . ( R . 3256 . ) |
