Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show ( Dredge Dxedge ) ( Company Compav ) . ( ( B R ) 788 . 3021 . ) The boat was equipped with a ( forty-horsepower fortyhorsepower ) gasoline ( motor inotor ) and propeller . It was brought to the Colorado . River on a ( wagon w-cagon wcagon ) and launched at Lees Ferry . He has seen the boat operated and has ridden around on it close to the ferry , but not ( on Oil ) long trips . ( ( Ku Ri ) 3022 . ) It went upstream to Warm Creek . He saw it come back in a flood from heavy rains , without any men in it ; he went out and roped it and drug it ashore . They landed down below the Ferry . They finally ( put piit ) the Violet Louise on a kind of sled they made , and drug it back up by the ( camp canip ) , and it is there yet , what is left of it , pieces lying around in there . ( ( B R ) . 3023 . ) When ( he lie ) roped the boat up it was probably about a mile below Lees Ferry and according to his recollections it was in 1912 , the same year Spencer launched it there . He saw them take the boat back upstream after he had rescued it . ( ( K R ) . 3023 . ) After rescuing the boat a sled of poles was brought and it was dragged back up the shore ( with witli ) five yoke of oxen , and it was never put on the river again after that ( time tinie ) . The same outfit had another boat called the ( Mul- Mul ) ( liws livs ) , which was a ( metal nietal ) boat about ( twenty-four twentyfour ) feet long and probably four feet wide and was propelled ( with -with with ) ( thirty-five thirtyfive ) ( or OT ) forty horsepower engine . He saw the Mullins boat in operation going around the point on its way to Warm ( Creek CreelK ) [ from Lees Ferry ] . ( ( E R ) . 3024 . ) He never went to Warm Creek on the Mullins boat . |
