Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Both he ( and alid ) his ( father father- father ) were at one time engaged in the ( sawmill sawinill ) and ( lum- lum ) ber business ( on oil ) the La Sal Mountains in Grand County , Utah . During the period of their ( opera opera- opera ) ¬ tions they supplied the ( Moab Aloab ) Country with lumber and the Colorado River was used in delivering the ( lumber luuiber ) to Moab from the mouth of Castle Creek to the ferryboat at Moab . The ( operations operatimis ) were first started in 1897 and 1898 . ( R . 4709-4710 . ) He again operated sawmills and used the ( Colo- Colo ) rado River in carrying lumber to Moab in 1902 and continued to operate and use the river each year until 1909 . In the last period this mill was ( located located- located ) on Fisher Point on the La Sal Mountains . ( R . 4711 . ) The , one he operated in 1897 and 1898 was located ( on oil ) Castle Creek . The mill was located ( twenty-two twentytwo ) miles from the river and the ( lumber lumber- lumber ) was hauled by team to the mouth of Castle Creek and was then rafted down the Colorado River to .
