Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show somewhere ( between betweeil ) Slick ( 11.18 1118 ) Horn Canyon and ( Grand GrIand ) Gulch and afterl6s ankle got better , ( he lie ) went back to the river and found his boat down below Slick Horn Canyon in the vicinity ofwlicre his ( partners partneni ) were expected to leave it . The trip that ( he lie ) ( made inade ) from Bluff to the ( Mendeii- Mendeii Mendell- Mendell ) hall gooseneck with the three boats was in March and the fore part of April , before high water . ( R . 4461 . ) ( In Ill ) September , 1905 , ( he lie ) saw ( Calhoun Calhoiiii ) and Clay at Bluff City , they having a boat that had been used for some time . ( They nicy ) had ( come conic ) down from above and they ( went welit ) ( on oil ) down the river with their outfit in the boat ( when w-hen when ) he was camped down below Bluff about two miles . They came to his camp and asked permission to go down the canyon and work some of his placer properties . ( R . 4462 . ) He later saw ( them thein ) down the river after they got ( their tliei-- tliei ) supplies from Mr . Hyde and were moving ( down dowil ) . They asked him to go with them . After he went down and found his boat at the agreed spot below Slick Horn Canyon , ( he lie ) went from there to the mouth of Grand Gulch . This was in the fall of the year , about December . Later in 1909 he made a trip from ( Chinle Chilile ) down the river in a boat that belonged to some miner that had been working assessments for him . ( R . 4463 . ) On this trip he had about seven or eight hundred pounds of supplies and he went ( down clown ) to Mexican Hat . |
