Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show mostly . ( B . ( 3105 8105 ) . ) There 809 was no barge , or other boat hooked up with the ( Charles Cliarles ) H . Spencer boat at the time he made the trip . ( R . 3105-3106 . ) After arriving at Lees Ferry with the Charles H . . Spencer boat ( he lie ) remained over night and went ( back bach ) the next morning to Warm Creek . This trip ( back baclc ) upstream took about two days . The log chain was not used on the upstream trip . He did well to get back with the boat , without ( drag- drag ) ging the chain . After returning to Warm Creek they made ( an- an ) other trip on the Charles R Spencer down to Lees Ferry with a cargo of about five tons of coal . This trip ( was -was was ) made in a day . The rock chain was used on this downstream trip . After completing this last trip to Lees Ferry he left that place right away ( 3106 ) , and went to Paria . There was two companies in there , one called ( themselves hernselves ) the Paria Mining Company ; he went up there and stayed at their mill . ( ( E R ) . 3107 . ) ( He Ile ) did not return to Lees Ferry after that except maybe once or twice a year , and these trips to that place have been made every year except for the last two or three years . ( The Tlie ) , ( Charles Char7cs ) H . Spencer has ( remained rernained ) at Lees Ferry . ( R . 3107 . ) ( He lie ) has been to the small mine on ( Warm IVarm ) Creek . , the one that was mined first . There ( were ivere ) about oiie hundred ( tons tous ) of coal at the ( mouth inouth ) of Warm Creek the last time he was there . |
