Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( R 3862 . ) When he lowered the weight ( he lie ) ( retarded -retarded retarded ) its progress by a brake on the windlass as it went down toward the bottom and allowed it to proceed down until it would go no farther of its own weight . He does not think that it would penetrate several inches of mud at the bottom . He does not ( think tbink ) it would be possible to get the milk bottle down without its being attached to the weight , except possibly in very low stages of water . ( R . 3862-3864 . ) ICELLY W .
