Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show teams lie ( bad had ) six horses 1229 and one driver and they would be gone twelve ( days lays ) and hauled three tons back . He included the grain and hay ( he lie ) fed the horses and the meals for the ( men inen ) and believes ( he lie ) sent twelve sacks of grain for the round trip . The grain was worth three dollars a hundred and the sacks would weigh one hundred pounds each . He paid a dollar and a half a day and board for each man . He paid them for the teams and they were in town a day getting repairs but he ( doesn't doesnt ) know whether or not he included that in his figures . The twelve days were the actual traveling time . JR . 4847 . ) This is an estimate but he figured it out . There was the one driver for the twelve days , twelve sacks of grain , board for the men and hay , all of which he believes is covered in his estimate . ( R . 4847-4848 . ) He hauled down to Trachyte for ( a' a ) period of a year and he is not sure that it ( wasn't wasnt ) longer . In arriving at an estimate of ( thirty-five thirtyfive ) cents per ton mile ( he lie ) just took one trip and did not take over ( the flie ) whole period of time .
