Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show ALBERT 1300 BEACH ! i . i For Defendant ( Record , vol . 29 , pp . 5094-5108 . I ( He He' He ) resides at Moab , Utah , and is an employee ( of 6f ) , the Moab Garage Company , having been so employed for some years . He has lived at Moab about ( twenty- twenty ) five ( y'dars ydars ) . ( R . 5094 . ) He entered the employ of the Moab Garage Company three or four years ago . He is now 40 years old . From the time ( he lie ) commenced working to ( earn earr ) a living he has been in the cattle business and was so engaged up until the time he became connected ( with'the withthe ) Moab Garage Company . As a boy at Moab he remembers trappers on the river , especially an old fellow by the name of Rocky , and Hy and Ed Turner . These trappers brought in furs from the river on their trips . He has knowledge of there being rafting on the river above Moab . ( R . 5095 . ) He can not remember the date or the year but ( lie- lie ) was going up the river horseback and saw Branson coming down the river with a lumber raft , the raft being in three sections tied together . He does not recall any other time that he saw a raft on the river . A portion of the time while in the employ of the Moab Garage Company he worked on the boat on the river , and was at times thus employed in 1927 and 1928 . During these two years he worked on the boats a period of two months but ( he lie ) is not able to segregate the portions of the two months spent on the river in 1927 and 1928 .
