Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show but ( as -is is ) far as ( sand salid ) bars 1170 and such things , there was no need of getting stuck , as ( he lie ) followed the channel . On the lower Colorado River ( with Nitli ) the power boat , lie ( didn't didnt ) encounter ( any aiiy ) difficulties with sand bars whatsoever . In going upstream with the ( two-horse twohorse two-liorse- twoliorse ) ¬ power motor , along Bull ( "Frog Frog ) Rapid there is a wash comes in , ( which -which which ) is the stiffest water they ( en- en ) countered . He used to help ( with witli ) the oars going over that . Otherwise he had no difficulties . ( R . 4639 . ) He got over the Bull Frog Rapids with the ( two-horsepower twohorsepower ) engine , and the assistance that he gave with the oars ; went over a number of times although he ( couldn't couldnt ) say how many , as they were down there ten or fifteen days before they met ( Chenoweth's Chenoweths Cheiloweth's Cheiloweths ) outfit , and he used to go ( up tip ) every day or two just to be doing something . This ( was -was was ) in the latter part of October and November . ( R . 4640 . ) ( Cross-examination Crossexamination ) ( R . Vol . 26 , pp . 4640- 4648 ) : He has been on the Green River with a ( power power- power ) boat , but not on any long trips ; just operated around the bridge there [ at Greenriver ] . ( R . 4640 . ) He has never been ( down clown ) as far ( as' as ) ( Wimmer's Wimmers Winimer's Winimers ) ( Ranch Rauch ) in a power boat . He has taken three trips down the Green River in a rowboat , once when he was ten years old and the other times in 1915 . and 1916 . Those were the only trips ( he lie ) ever took on the Green River in a rowboat . |
