Show 1319 shows both acreages . ( R . 5161 ) The area on the . map colored in yellow is a lower elevation than a . certain reservoir site on the Dolores River and , . could be reached by a gravity flow from that proposed reservoir . ( R . 5162 , 5163 . ) Most of the land colored in yellow is sagebrush mesa , sloping to the southwest and is ( red-loam redloam ) soil . The greater part of this soil is underlain by a strata of sandstone at . varying depths in some places , however , coming to the surface . He would say the depth varies ( from- from ) nothing at the surface to ten or twelve feet . He has had occasion more or less for the ( last- last ) twenty years to study soils and familiarize himself with the duty of water on various types of soil . ( R . - 5163 . . ) He estimated that a foot and a quarter per acre was ample water for irrigation on these lands . . Immediately east of these lands colored yellow ( there- there ) are other lands that are irrigated with similar ( soil- soil ) conditions , and it is estimated that these lands ( use- use ) about one and one quarter ( acre-foot acrefoot ) of water ( per- per ) acre . At the time he was working on this project it . was considered that there were available from the . Dolores River for storage one hundred and ( eighty- eighty eighty-- eighty ) five thousand ( acre-feet acrefeet ) . ( R . 5163-5164 . ) The : storage of this water would require a dam two , hundred and fifty feet high and it is estimated that . there is available in the Dolores River , three hundred . and fifty thousand ( acre-feet acrefeet ) of water , it being planned to store only one hundred and ( eighty-five eightyfive ) thousand ( acre-feet acrefeet ) , but it was contemplated to irrigate more |
