Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show 1287 ( It is stipulated that the witness would testify upon refreshing his recollection from the diary that the trips were made by the big boat on the dates specified in the diary and that a copy of the diary may ( bc- bc ) received in evidence merely as to the respective dates and trips therein stated , all other material with ( refer- refer ) ence to hearsay matters in the diary not to be ( con- con ) sidered . . The truth of the entries therein is not admitted by Government counsel . ) ( R . 5053-5054 . ) , ( Cross-examination Crossexamination ) ( R . Vol . 29 , pp . . 5054-5082 ) : : The big boat , or barge , was built for the purpose of hauling supplies for the Midwest Exploration ( Com- Com ) pany in the year 1925 . His company had been in the freighting business with the use of automobiles for a period of ten years but they had carried no freight on the river prior to building the Moab Garage boat [ barge ] . They had an Evinrude boat prior to 1925 but ( didn't didnt ) use it ( much-just muchjust ) had it down there for pleasure to cross the river and go fishing with . . ( R . . 5054-5055 . ) After obtaining the contract to haul the equipment for the Midwest Exploration Company they ( pur- pur ) chased either three or four additional trucks , one Coleman and two Max , and when they were not ( haul- haul ) ing ( oil-well oilwell ) equipment with these trucks they were , used for hauling general freight to Moab , Monticello , LaSalle , and intermediate points .
