Show 94.9 The boats for the expedition [ in 1921 ] were ( launched launche ) on the river about four miles below Bluff , , under the . directions of Mr . Trimble ; he , ( Miser Nliser ) , being attached to the expedition as geologist , his official ( instruc- instruc ) tions being to examine the geological structure and oil possibilities of the region traversed and to also make a study of any dam sites under consideration on the San Juan River . ( R . 3730-3731 . ) At that time no dam sites were being considered on the San Juan , and the only site on the Colorado River below the ( mouth inouth ) of the San Juan was the Glen Canyon site ; for inasmuch as the proposed site of the dam at Lees Ferry was such as would raise the water in the reservoir to an elevation of ( thirty- thirty ) nine hundred feet above sea level , it was not ( neces- neces ) sary to consider sites on the San Juan at that time . He felt it advisable , however , to examine all possible favorable sites on the San ( Juan luan ) for future ( considera- considera ) tion , , in order that the information would be ( avail- avail ) able . After his return to Washington he and Mr . La Rue went over the situation , picking out a lot of favorable sites and prepared to submit to the Geological Survey a report describing them . The proposed height of the dam [ in Glen , Canyon at Lees Ferry ] is seven ( hundred bundred ) and eighty feet . ( R . . 3731 . ) At the beginning of his trip on the San Juan River the boats were ( launched launclied ) at a fairly steep place in the bank where the water was not very deep , and some of the party waded out in the river a short distance to |
