Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

P . boiler was also ( taken talcen ) ( down dowil ) on this trip . ( R . 3267 . ) Went to prospecting on the Colorado River in ( 1892 IS92 ) with Ed ( Meskin Mesldn ) . ( R . 3268 . ) Took a ( team teani ) , wagon , and supplies ; followed the ( same saine ) route . Built a ( small sinall ) skiff and went up the river to ( Hite I-Ifte IIfte ) . This was ( in iii ) September . They poled and towed and rowed the boat up the river . Waded and ( pulled ImIled ) it over the bad places . ( R . 3270 . ) ( Remained Reniained ) until spring of ( 1893 1-893 ) . ( Made T"Nfadc TNfadc ) one trip with team for supplies . No settlers at Hanson Creek . ( R . 3270-3271 . ) There were places at the bar called the Little Anna where the water carried a great deal of silt , and it would settle and they would get on these mud bars ; had a light boat and encountered little ( trou trou- trou ) ble . ( R . 3230-3231 . ) In latter part of 1892 and early in 1893 there were some people operating at ( Hall's Halls ) Crossing and an outfit below Hite , and some men at Tickaboo and Good Hope . ( R . 3272-3273 . ) In August or September , 1894 , prospected on the river ( and aud ) took a contract for putting wood and timber on the ( California Califoriiia ) bar . Had a team and horses and would go across the river . ( R . 3273-3274 . ) Made a trip upstream in 1894 and had the same proposition of rowing and towing .
