Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Then after the river would rise a foot you could always find a place to get ( by-it byit ) might be on ( the flie ) west side of the river ( to-day today ) , and might be on the east side of the river ( to-morrow tomorrow ) . ( R . 3307 . ) The same conditions do not prevail where there is a gravel bed as where there is a sand bed , ( as -is is ) with the gravel there is a more permanent channel . ( "Where Where Where ) there were gravel beds and the river ran Swift7 it took a lifetime to ( make inake ) much of a change . One place where he recalls where ( he be ) ( lias has ) seen quite a change was ( where Nyhere ) lie used to drive across to California bar with the wagon set on the running gears , but ( to-day today ) you ( can't cant ) go across at all as the channel is washed through there . It has taken a long ( time tinie ) to make this ( change cliange ) as there is gravel there . During the ( months montlis ) ( when wheil ) there would be rain on the river , the rise and fall would wash the silt in and would change the bed of the river in the ( still- still still ) water places worse ( than fliall ) at any other time , as far as bad ( changes clizanges ) are ( concerned eonceriled ) . River got so high he could not ( navi navi- navi ) ¬ gate and effects of this flood lasted about two weeks .
