Show There were no sand bars 1411 that ( he lie ) saw in Cataract Canyon , but from the foot of Cataract Canyon down , to the ( Utah-Arizona UtahArizona ) line , he was frequently stuck on , sand bars . ( R . 5447 ) The other boats in that party used by members of . the survey were also stuck on sand bars frequently . If the chief would tell you to go and give him a shot from a certain point , and you started to go over there , possibly ( wouldn't wouldnt ) be enough water , and you would get stuck on a sand bar , just get out and pull the boat as far as you could , and leave it there and give him the shot ; then he would come ( down-lie downlie ) worked one side of the ( river-come rivercome ) down to you and ( he liel ) would send the other man , possibly , to the other side of the river ; ( he lie ) might get stuck , or might not ; all depends on how the channel was , the current . Numerous times you could go right to the place he would send you without a bit of difficulty ; other times you would have to get out and wade . ( R . 5448-5449 . ) As far as his personal experience goes , his boat never hit a sand bar or got stuck on a sand bar while it was in the channel of the river , on the trip from the foot of the Cataract Canyon to the ( Utah-Arizona UtahArizona ) line . If the wind was blowing and it was rough , it was hard to determine a channel , but ( he be ) could usually find it without any difficulty , and , as ( he be ) remembers , he never got stuck or ( Lit hit ) a sand bar except when ( he lie ) ( de- de ) liberately left what he knew to be the channel of the river . He never saw any boat or any other member of the party stuck on a sand bar in the channel . ( R . |
