Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( R . ( 4220 42-90 ) . ) ; On the trip up the Grand [ Colorado ] River they did not get past the slide . They turned around because they could not get up the Grand [ Colorado ] River and went back to Greenriver [ Utah ] . On the trip back up to Greenriver they did not have so much work as they had coming down because they did not get hung up so tight on the bars . They were easy to ( get cret ) off of because they could back away from ( them 'them them ) . He does not recall exactly , but he thinks it ( took tool- tool ) six or seven days to go back . On the trip back they stopped at ( Halverson's Halversons ) Ranch , ( a -a a ) point about seven miles below Greenriver , because they could not get over the shallow ( water iirater ) above the ranch . ( R . 4221-4222 . ) At ( Balverson's Balversons Halverson"'S HalversonS ) Ranch the City of Moab was ( remodeled -remodeled remodeled ) and equipped with steam power , a paddle wheel , and renamed the ( Cliff Ckff ) Dweller . At first it had a ( two-cylinder twocylinder ) gas motor with twin propellers . He did not make the trip down to ( Valentine's Valentines ) Bottom on the Cliff Dweller but he made the trip from ( Halverson's Halversons ) Ranch up to Greenriver on it before it started down .
