Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( R . . 3107 ) He has been near enough to see that coal and it is all covered up with sand . ( R . ( 3107-310S 3107310S ) . . ) He does not know ( anything anythbig ) about the operation of the boat known as the ( Violet Viold ) ( Louise Louisc ) . His operations were confined ( entirely eiltirely ) to the ( Clwrlos CharZos ) H . . ( Spencer Spencar ) boat . ( Goal Coal ) was taken from ( Warm Warin ) Creek to Lees ( Perry Ferry ) by other means than the boats ; ( he Ile ) ( packed pached ) it over with pack train . Had three mules and a saddle horse . Carried about two hundred pounds to the ( animal anilual ) , six hundred pounds to the trip . ( R . 3108 . ) This trip with the pack outfit that carried the coal , was made a few days before he went on the last trip of the Charles H . Spencer boat , which was the latter part of March of 1912 . ( ( E R ) , . 3108-3109 . ) There were fifteen men at the ( camp canip ) which was established at Warm Creek while he was working there that winter . The supplies for the camp ( -were were ) brought in by wagon from Marysvale [ ( Utah TJtah ) ] . He was on the ( diaries Charles ) ( H ff ) . Spencer boat once when it tried to go upstream . Got about a quarter of a mile above the mouth of Warm ( Creek Creeh ) . . Then came back to Warm Creek , got stuck on a sand bar ; ( couldn't couldnt ) go any ( further fuTther ) . ( R . . 3116 ) When he went to Lees ( Perry Ferry ) on the last trip made by the Charles H . Spencer the boat was made fast to the shore with ropes tied to a big rock on the bank . ( E . 3110 ) |
