Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show A . L . 1316 KROEGER For Defendant ( Record , vol . 29,1 ) 1 ) . 5151-5179 He resides at Durango , Colorado , and is a civil engineer by profession . He has lived in Durango about ( twenty-five twentyfive ) years , and in that vicinity ( forty- forty ) four years . He is familiar with , and has been over , a large part of the San Juan Basin and watershed in eastern Utah , New Mexico , and Colorado . He is familiar with the timber and the cuttings of timber that have occurred in those sections of the country and knows of his own knowledge the location and approximate areas of timbered lands . ( R . 5151- 5152 . ) He had verified and corroborated his personal knowledge in this respect by interviews with ( employ employ- employ ) ees of lumber companies who have kept records and detailed information as to the exact areas and amount of cutting . He has personally made surveys of the ( so-called socalled ) Dolores River Project , having spent the best part of three years on that work . He is familiar from ( sur- sur ) veys made by him , of the amount of land that can be reached by gravity flow of water from a reservoir site on the Dolores River and is also familiar with the areas of land above Bluff on the San Juan River and its tributaries that are irrigated by the waters of the San Juan and tributaries and he has checked his general knowledge with the records in the offices of county assessors of various counties in Colorado and with the division engineer of District No . 7 of |
