Stanley Bradshaw . Born at Lees Ferry , Arizona , in 1879 and lived there until , 1896 ( when ivhen ) went out and returned ( in iii ) July , 1910 , and remained until 1923 . They ran the ferry with a long sweep , one each side , and one at rear to steer by ; ( current carrent ) ran the boat but it had to be held at a certain angle . His job was to get the rope and tow the boat upstream , while his father held it out from shore around rocks and sand bars . ( ( K R ) . 3061 . ) He generally took the oars on upper side when they got up the river , as that was the least difficult to ( handle hauffle ) . Prior to 1906 the ferry was not cable ; ( James Xames ) S . Emmett had the cable put in .
