Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

He ( con- con ) siders the Brown Riffle ( dangerous daugerous ) because there are two or three washes ( come conie ) in opposite the river . He has never had an accident there except the , lack of power to go upstream , but it is really what lie ( considers cousiders ) a dangerous piece of water . ( R . 4782- 4783 . ) He ( never iiever ) failed to go up the river in the ( Marguerite arytterite ) and ( he lie ) never failed to get up ( any -my my ) of the riffles in theillarguerite ; only when he had ( engine engh-ie enghie ) trouble . He has had some engine trouble going ( down down- down ) stream and he would go and leave the ( Marguerite Margiterite ) but it would not be on a riffle . He had to leave it on three different occasions ( on ou ) account of power trouble . ( Prom From ) his ranch up the Moab and from Moab back ( he lie ) had no serious trouble at all and when he started to Moab he got there when he told them he was coming . ( R . 4782-4783 . ) The ( onty only ) time he had the ( Marguerite 3farguerite ) to Moab Mr . Wolverton and ( Mr TAIr ) . Howland brought it back and he was never stuck in a sand bar ( with Ndth ) the Marguerite . He knows the place called the Slide on the ( Colo Colo- Colo ) ¬ rado River and ( when wheii ) he went through with a load of Salt Lake boosters he thought it best not to tell them they were coming to the Slide and he went up without them ( even eveii ) knowing it was tliere .
