Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( 4732-4801 4732-4861 ) ) ( ( Kecord Itecord ) vol . 29 , pp . 5188-5189 ) ( He Ile ) is ( sixty-two sixtytwo ) years old and at the present time : resides in San Diego , California . ( R . 4732 . ) His present business is ranching and stock raising and at one time he lived in Greenriver , Utah . He first moved there about 1900 and was engaged in the sheep business and later had a ranch about eight miles up the river from Greenriver , Utah . He lived on this ranch for a while and then moved into the town of Greenriver , about 1904 or 1905 . He has done boating on the Green River . ( R . 4733 . ) When he was at the upper ranch he had a small rowboat but after living there and moving to Greenriver , he did not have any boating experience until ( he lie ) bought a ranch at the mouth of the San Rafael River , but he made trips with Mr . ( Wolver- Wolver ) ton before he got a boat of his own . He recalls a boat owned by Mr . Wolverton called the Wilmont , and he took trips in this boat ( while -while while ) he was living at Greenriver , ( Utah TJtah ) . ( R . 4734 . ) These were just short trips . After he bought his ranch at the mouth of the San Rafael he had Mr . Wolverton make him a boat that was ( called -called called ) the ( Marguerite 31arguerite ) . This boat was ( thirty-three thirtythree ) feet long and about seven or eight feet wide and did not draw very much water empty . ( R . 4735 . ) The boat was built to carry three tons . He ( could'operate couldoperate ) as early as March . |
