Grsevius eft le fruit d'un long travail qu'il a employé à la former pendant tout le cours de fa vie ; c'eft de ce trefor qu'il a puife les belles connoif-fances & la profonde érudition, qui ont rendu bn nom célèbre dans le monde , & luy ont acquis, fi l'on en croit l'Editeur de ¦ ce Catalogne , le premier rang dans la République des Lettres. On convient qu'il y a des Bibliothèques plus nombreufes ; mais on prétend qu'il ne s'en trouve point qui foit plus remplie de Livres rares & curieux 5 ni mieux choifTs. MiGraîvius ne regardoit pas les Livres comme un fimple ornement pour flater fa vanité; mais il s'en fervoit pour devenir plus fçavant & plus homme de bien. Sa Bibliorheque eft compofée de tous les Livres x qui font les plus eftimez dans chaque Art ou Science ; il Faifoit chercher dans les Boutiques des Libraires ces Livres qui font rares s ou qui ne fe rencontrent qu'en certains pays» II avoit fur tout un grand empreiement d'acheter ceux qui avoient pafle par les mains des gens de '«très 5 & fur quoy ils aveient fait leurs Remarques. Il en avoit de Scaliger , de Sau-fcaiïe, de Scnverius, & de quelques autres SçaKans-, qui pour être moins connus, ne [ont peut-être pas moins recommanda»!*^ |
