Tambien tomaban personajes de estos, co· mo son los que traen acuestas lena para vender, otros que traen verdura; tambien tomaban personajes de enfermos, corno son los leprosos y bubosos; otros ton1aban personajes de aves. Estaba la imagen de Tlaloc enmedio del areyto, a cuya honra bailaban, y dclante de ella estaba una balsa de agua, donde habia culebras y ran as, y unos hornbres que llamaban maxatecaz estaban a Ia orilla de la balsa, y tragabanse las culebras y las ranas vivas; tomaban .. las con las boca~ y no con las manos, y cuando las . habian tornado en la boca, ibanse a bailar, ibanlas tragando y bailando, y el que primero acava.ba de tragar la culebra 6 rana, luego daba voces diciendo: papa papa.
