Show Of the Cure of the Irv/9 and Stabs. Chap. I X, thods Topicks being irregularly applied, the grofs Saline Particles are for. ccd from the outward to the inward parts, and fo have a recourfe to the Ina-limes, Vifcera, and Brain, and are productive often of dangerous and fatal Difca fes. Chap. NOW I make bold to oH'Zsr a great Inflance of this Contagious Difeafe, of C H A P. IX. 0f the Cure of the In]? and $046!. ' Nother Cutaneous Eruption hath a different face from the other, ‘ fk wherein it difgtaceth the Elegancy of the Skin, with many fmall Pimplcs, proceeding from Serous Recrements of the Blood; thefe fruitful Puftles, more and more overfpreading the Skin, are attended with great Itching, which being fcratched to allay its trouble ( degenerates into Ulcers and Bcahs) changeth its itching into fmart and pain. As to the Caufes of thefe Difeafes, vulgarly called the Itch, it is propaga- ted from falt, (harp, and warty Humours, often taking their birth from grofs and ban‘ Viéhials, which eaiily corrupt, and produce an ill Chyle (which cannot be afiiuiilated by motion, and converfe into good Blood) hence poor Perfons (whole I‘traight Fortunes deny them the advantage of procuring good M"a': ) are forced to comply with their Wants in buying the cheapell: and worPt Meat, rotten Mutton, long kept, Mufiy and fometimes Ilinck~ ing Helh and Fiih; and indeed any thing that is not abfolute Carrion, to gratiiie the clamorous importunity of their keen Appetites. meridians V'Vhereupon poor People are often infeéied with this Sluttilh Difeafe, hafig:‘l;§3*§-;‘§j~;‘ ving not Money and Time to fupply their Neceffary Cccafions, are deflitute fightilfl‘fi' of clean Linnen and Cloaths to keep themfelves fweet and cleanly, whence their Bodies being covered with Naflinefs, obfiruéiirig the pores of the Skin, and hindting due Tranfpiration, do contract corrupt Humours, tainting the Blood with this filthy Difea'fe, caufing their Bodies to ftink alive, when above Ground, before their time, and are truly the Objefts of out Charity, as well as Pity, to take them into our Care, and make a Provilion for them, as partakers of the fame Humane Nature at leal't, and fome of them, as Fellow Members of Chrift, and Temples of the Holy Ghofi; which are endearing Arguments to efpoufe their Wants as our own, with this good Memento, T/Jat by rdfling our Bread upon the Watery, after many day: we [hall find it: And by providing for the @007, me [7241! lay up Treajitm in HM‘UCU. "Smut," The Itch and Scabs alfo arife from Critical Evacuations, flowing from Siiiiiiifgri: Acute and Cronick Difeafes, difcharging corrupt Humours, and ferous Remziuns. etc-incurs, into the Ambient parts of the Body, whereby it is freed from more {iguificant inward Difeafes, oftentimes threatning Death. gallium-533i); This unclean Difeafe is often derived from Contagion, by reafon the Sur- Cmuim' face of Scabby Bodies 1s befmeared With a uafiy and clammy moifiure, WhICll being imparted to others by Contaét, or by Clothes, or Convcrfe, which make the like Itchy and Scabby impreflions into the Blood of others, as be' ing I'Cceiwd firfl by the Pores of the Skin into the cxtreamities of the Vein: an which I had Forty Patients at once in a School at @adinglon, where the Scholars f0 infeéled one another, that there could fcarce be found one, that was not tainted with this fruitful and filthy Difeafe. In order to the Cure of this Difeafe, a wholefome Diet is to be obferved, and all falt, highly Uné‘tuous, and Fat Meats forborn, as eafily degenerating into corrupt, and fair Fa‘culc‘ncics of the Blood; and fome propound good Boal‘ted Meat, as themoft fit to dry up the ferous Excrements of the Blood. In reference to Pharmacy, k~‘pecifick Purging Medicines (attended with Medicineilrc Bleeding) do evacuate ferous Humours, and difcharge the Icabby Ferments {3.3233565}; (lodged in the Blood) by Arteries inferred into the Intel'cines, whence the 5mm 11‘ rine. and then coutfe of nafly Recreinents b rig diverted from the Circumference toward 3"""3‘5 the Center, from thv Ambient toward the Interior parts, is exonerated by mum. the Guts into a. more large and free Receptacle. In this Diltempet, Salt and \Vatry lIumours being concerned, I deem it very proper to advife Medicines, that purge by Urine, to haften the fetous Recreinents of the Blood, down the defeendent Trunk of the .Iorta, and Emulgent Artery, into the Glands of the Kidney, wherein the gtofe Saline mixed with watry Particles, being fecerned from the Blood. are carried through the Carunculm Papillares into the Pelvis, and from thence by the Ureters into the Bladder. I conceive it reafonable to advife Sudorificks, after Purgatives and Diure- Sim" Medicinesarc ticks have been largely Adminif'cred, to free the Mafs of Blood from its Sa- 53:; 2,33" line Excrements by the Cutaneous Glands, and their Excretory Duets into Purgativcs the confines of the Body, where it is at lafi to be Eradicated by drying $911": and cleanfing Topicks, which do fatisfie the indications of thefe noifome and vcxatious Ulcers, as fed by ferous and vifcid Recrements, which cleanfing and drying outward Medicines turn into Scabs, and fcale them of}; whereby the Circumference of the Body is cleared from this foul Difeafe, difgracing the elegant furface of the Skin. |
