The Earth being robbed of its Treafures, by digging up its Mines and Minerals, is experimentally found to be enriched in their growth again after fome Years 3 which [conceive proceedeth from Mineral Juices, lodged in the with Elallic Particles, doth every way extend the body of Vegetables by its cxpanfive nature and the architeflorick airy Spirits, accompanied with Saline and Sulphureous Particles, do enlarge their Wooden Territories in which they refide ; and every way dilate the empty fpaces, till the Trees and Plants arrive their due Figure and Stature. And Vegetables do not only in their Trunks and Stalks receive nourifhmerit and growth, but Germination alfo, which is crowned with thoots, Laws, Flowers and Fruits, which are all propagated from Sap; rendred Rf . by airy Particles, elevated With Czleflial Influences, and feveral Corpvn'al Emanations, which do penetrate the pores of the Cuticle, encircling the ambient parts of the Trunks, Branches, Leaves, Flowers, and Fruits, Iiitefline Motions to Trees and Plants, in order to their Growth, and Germi- p101: Fectzvc the Air, which being embodied With the faline, and earthy Particles of the Plants their proper Stature and Magnitude, as having advanced them to the 33;??? The Earth, the common parent of Plants and Trees, when bereaved of all its Oily and Saline parts, is turned into a Capltt mortuum, and groweth fruitful again by being expofed to the Air, whofe Saline and Sulphureous Bulk and Figure, which hath been accomplilhed by divers Preps of Fermen- $331"? And not only Mineral, but alfo Vegetable Juices, are rendred Fermentative by manifold Steams, ( embodied with Air) which are of a very different nature, reteining the qualities of thofe Subl'tances, out of which they Mile, and are tranfmitted into the bodies of Plants and Trees ( asI conceive) after this manner : The Straw; nutrient: of Vegetables, is received out of the Earth by the fecret paffages of the Cuticula ( enwrapping the Root) befet with numerous Perforations ( fuited in figure and magnitude to the Minute Particles of the Sap) through which the alimentary Liquor is filtred, and then is carried upward through the fyfiems of Wooden Fibres, which are f0 many Minute Tubes making the body of Trees, and {talks of Plants. 1,5531%; 80 that the Sap, as it runneth upward from the Root to the top, is impreg5‘" it, mom," nated in its paflage, With fireams of Eflluxes, infinuating themfelves through 3mm W" many feeret paffages of the Bark, by which numerous Fibres palfing horizonsififittiltc tally, the many fubtle and fpir'rtuous Steams, being of different tempers, {hapcs ii‘agtwma ‘ mcnfions of lowers, and Fermenrs; which are very infirumental to impart great efficacy in variety of Fruitsarcw nation, adorned with beautiful Flowers and pleafant Fruits. Whereupon, Nature being Very ambitions to preferve it felf, and being not able to perpetuate it felf numerically in every Individuum, is very folicitous (being emulous of a kind of Eternity ) to compenfate the defects of particulars,in the more common prefervation of the Species, and bath infiituted new confederacies of Volatil, Saline, and Sulphureous Particles, as the more killing and fertile reliques of Plants; out of whofe Sap, tinged with Fer-s menrative airy Steams; a Secretion is made of the more noble and agile parts, ( allociated with fomewhat of Water) which are formed into Seeds, as {0 many rcferves and quintefccnees of Plants, fitted for a new birth and reltitua tron.
