Show 816 MESSRS. MELVILL AND STANDEN ON [Nov. 13, among the larger species of the genus. It is so fragile, however, as not to bear much handling, and this may in some measure account for its having been so long unnoticed and undescribed. Only single valves have hitherto been met with. We hope soon to see some dredged and perfect specimens. It only occurs after storms, which would imply that it is a deep-water shell, and probably lives in thick mud. Fam. P axdo r id je . The ribs are thick and beautifully scaly-imbricate, however, the form being practically the same. V er t ico r d ia m ul tico stata A. Ad. P.G. Gulf of Oman.
