Elle eft chargée d'une gran. yde quantité de figures d'hommes & d'animaux taillées avec beaucoup d'art & de foin. Jean Triftan, Sieur de S. Amant r en adonné une explication dans (es Commentaires hiftoriques imprimez en 1^44. Il prétend que ce vafe fut fait par le commandement de Ptolomée Philadelphe Roy d'Egypte 3&que tout ce quon y voit reprefente une fête de Bacchus. Le pied de ce vafe eft orné d'une enchaflfure d'or émaillée & enrichie de pierres precieufes. Deux Vers latins qu'on y lit, nom apprennent qu'il a été autrefois donné à S. Denys par le Roy Charles III. du nom, c'eft-à-dire > ou par Charles le Simple, ou par PEmpereur Charles le Gros 5 qui gouverna la France pendant quelque temps,ou enfin par Charles le Chauve, qui porte quel* quefois le titre de Charles III. dans les an-siennes Chartes. On trouve à la fin de ce Volume,un Recueil de titres & de pièces choifies qui fervent de preuves à cette Hiftoire ; on y voit entr'autres un ancien Necrologe de l'Abbaye de faint Denys 3 qui a beaucoup fervi a tt-<&ifier les époques de la mort de plufaeus perfanoes illultres. |
