Show ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS First off, I would like to thank all of my friends and family who have supported me during my doctoral program. In particular, my sincere appreciation goes to my husband, Chris; my parents, Clint and Deb; my ‘grandmas,' Betty and Glenda; and my dear friends, Alex and Melissa. Your support, love, lending an ear, and even offering comic relief have been amazing. I also have to mention my three pets, Brie, Sierra, and Nevada. Thanks for forcing me to take breaks by sitting in front of my computer screen or demanding a walk! In particular, Dr. John Francis, my chair, who could always tempt me to drive down from Heber for a lunch meeting and, especially as the end grew close, always reminded me, ‘remember, no fun' to keep me on track. I would also like to thank Dr. Matt Burbank for the continual supply of letters, and Mary Ann Underwood, the go-to person of the Department for nearly my entire graduate career. Lastly, I want to acknowledge the unfailing support of Dr. Ross Burkhart who was my undergraduate mentor at Boise State University, and who has continued to follow my academic career in the years since. Finally, part of this dissertation would not have been possible without the Marriner S. Eccles Graduate Fellowship I received in 2013-2014, which allowed me to travel to Europe and conduct the interviews in Brussels, The Hague, Copenhagen, and xi |
