Tlacaelel respondi6: i es posible que nuestros deudos y parientes intenten semejante negocio? esfuergate y no temas, quel Senor de lo criado, del cielo y de la tierra y de la noche y del dia, te librara de las man as de tus enemigos; pues no puedes oir Jo que esta determinado, ni es licito esconderte, pues para esto fuiste escogido entre tus hermanos; y no solo esto as de espcrimentar el tiempo que vivieres, como yo e esperimentado antes que esta ciudad tuviese manos y pies y el resucllo y descanso que agora tiene, y as quenta que te viene esta tribulacion para principia de tus grande" as; y para que se entienda la poca culpa que en este negocio tenemos, despacha luego tus mensageros al rey de Tacuba y al de Tezcuco y a los senores de Chalco y a los de Xuchimilco y Cuyuacan, ft Culhuacan, Iztapalapa, no para que nos favorezcan y ayuden, sino para que si los tlatelulcas nos quixeren hacer mal y los veneieremos y desbarataremos;, sepan y esten auisados no auer sido nosotros la causa, por ser caso vergon~oso que unos hermanos contra otros se maltraten y den guerra; y si fueremos vencidos y muertos, al menos la gloria sera nuestra de no auelles dado ocasion. Los quales mensajeros luego fueron inviados a todas las prouincias, y concluyendo el viejo con la platica, mand6 que con todo secreta se aperciuiese la gente de mancebos y soldados viejos, de armas, rodelas y espadas, hondas y otros aderegos de guerra y que esperascn el suceso. El senor de Tlatelulco sali6 aca fuera para ver si en u casa auia algun rumor de gente y all6 que en la cocina de su casa estaua un viejo de muchos dias, que a su parecer nunca le auia vista, el qual estaua hablando con un perrillo y el perrillo le respondia a todo lo que le preguntaua, y que en el fuego estaua una caguela hirbiendo, junto al viejo, y dentro de ella· unos pajaros bay lando, lo qual tuvo el rey por muy mal agtiero; y que una mascara questaua colgada en una pared empeg6 a quexarAe muy lastimosamentc, la qual el rey tom6 y higo peda<;os. Viendo el rey toda estas cosas qui o consultar ~ los dioses y hacellcs fiesta para que aquello agtiero fuesen contra los tcnuchcas, para lo qual convid6 {t sus vecino los de Azcaputzalco, Cuautitlan y rrenayuca, a los qualcs hi<;o un solcne banquete y bayle, los adere~os del qual fueran todo pertrechos de guerra, espadas, rodelas, fl.echa , dardos, hondas, areas, con las quales insignias celcbraron aquel solene baylc, y todos los presentes que aquellos senores ofrecieron fueron d lo mesmo, juntamcnte con las ofrendas de su dios. Acauado el banquete, queriendo cantar algunos cantares de 1a ·mentacion contra los tenuchcas, casi como llorandolos ya muertos |
