Show 5257 Chaffin- D 3269 BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Were you in the court room this morning when Mr. Frank Johnson was testifying? A Yes. Q Do you recall him mentioning a man by that name? A Yes. Q Do you know what became of Meskin? A The last I heard of him, I had a letter from a fellow named Mike Ryan, used to be on the Colorado river; he said Meskin was up in Butte, Montana, singing in the Salvation Army. He said, " I seen him." Q At any rate, you went in there in 1892 and went to prospecting? A Yes sir. Q What kind of equipment did you take in with you? A I took a team and wagon and supplies. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Where on the river? A At Hanson creek, at the mouth of Hanson; went down the same way this time. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q When you reached the mouth of Hanson creek, then where did you go? A We had lumber, and built us a small skiff or boat about sixteen feet long, about three feet wide, as near as I remember, and put part of our supplies in, and went up the river |
