Show 5176 F. Bennett- D 3188 Q By way of Hanksville? A Yes sir. Q Why didn't you launch it at Greenriver, and take it down that way? A I never imagined I wanted to risk my life as I thought I would have to, going down that river. Q How did you get along with this tunnel boat after you got it into the water? A it; it didn't do very well. The water would follow me back up stream; had a suction. Q In other words, it had a tendency to short of sit down in the water? A Yes, and draw the water along behind it. Q How long did you keep this boat going? A I took the engine out of it and used it as a sail boat. Boarded it over, and then used cars on it, to a certain extent. And I guess it is on the river yet. I left it there, anyway. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q You say you used it as a sail boat? A I used it, put a sail on it, and whenever we had wind we would use it to go up the river. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Ever been able to use a sail on a boat over rapids going up stream? |
