Show 5240 Newby- D 3252 A It was launched just above the railroad bridge at Greenriver. Q Did you make a trip on the Black Eagle? A I wouldn't call it a trip, but I fired the boiler while we crossed the river, that is, crossed it angling up stream, probably made a half- mile on the boat. Q Up stream? A Yes. Q And that was above the Greenriver bridge? A Yes sir. Q And when you reached that point did you turn around and come back? A No. Q What happened up there? A We just tied the boat up there to the shore, and I don't know what Mr. Yokey done with it after that; that was only just a little trial trip to try out the boiler and engine on the boat. Q Was that the first trip of the boat? A As far as I know, that is the first trip the boat made. Q What year was that, do you recall? A That must have been about 1908 or 1909. Now, I won't say positive which, but it was right in there some place. Q Have you seen the Black Eagle recently? A No sir. Q Where was the Black Eagle the last time you saw it? |
