Show 5055 F. Johnson- D 3067 A Yes sir. Q And at what point? A yards below the ferry boat where they started out, where they loaded the scow to push up the river or pull up the river, or push, whatever you might call it. Q Did you Violet Louise and that scow pass out of your sight that day? A Yes sir. Q How long were they gone? A I don't remember exactly; it was quite a while. Several weeks. I would say about three weeks before they returned. The Violet Louise never came back, to my knowledge, except when it came back without anybody in it, floating down the river. I didn't see it this time. I saw it after it was caught and tied up. Q Do you know who was in charge of the Violet Louise when it started up the river with this barge? A Charles H. Spencer was on the boat. Whether he had another man actually in charge or not I couldn't say. Q Do you know how Mr. Spencer returned to Lees Ferry? A How is that? Q Do you know by what means of transportation he returned to Lees Ferry? |
