A Yes, I have worked with the geological surveys as a guide, and done a number of different things; principally mining. Q Have you any familiarity with the Colorado river? A Yes sir, I have. THE SPECIAL MASTER: It would aid me a great deal if you wouldn't put your hand to your mouth like that. THE WITNESS: I will try to speak a little louder. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q When did you first go to the Colorado river? A In 1897, about the 1st of December. Q At what point did you enter the Colorado river? A I went to Hite where I first struck the Colorado river, Hite, Utah. Q How did you get to Hite? A Went down with the pack horses, the pack mules and saddle horses. Q From what point? A From the Henry mountains, up about thirty- five miles, I guess, from the Bromide mine. Q What creek or wash did you come down in order to hit the Colorado river, do you recall? A I went down what was called Trachyte at that time. |
