Show 5133 Bennett- 3145 Q Did the raft go down twice? A No; we built different rafts each time. Q There was more than one raft? A Yes sir. Q The first raft took down the gasoline engine? A Yes sir. Q And what else did they take down? A Just the drilling rig. Q What did that consist of? A Consisted of an engine and a bull wheel; that was made of wood, and the frame of the rig was all wood; that was built into the raft, then re- set up down there. The wheels were of iron. Q What was the size of that first raft? A That raft was built in three or four sections; it was about ten feet wide, about forty or forty- two feet long, if I remember correctly. I helped build it. Q Built in three or four sections, then all joined to-gether when it went down the river? A Yes sir. Q And it had loaded on it the equipment you have described? Q Yes sir, the engine, one drill stem, a set of jars, a bit, was on that raft. Q It went down simply by the force of the current, or was it rowed down? |
